Low and behold my luck was in and\u00a0I bagged 2 tickets to the following Sunday performances of the high demand, award winning play of\u00a0<em>Harry Potter and The Cursed Child<\/em> Parts 1 and 2!<\/p>\n<p>For those who don&#8217;t know about &#8216;The Friday Forty&#8217;, its a lottery that is up for grabs every Friday on the <em>Harry Potter and the Cursed Child&#8217;s<\/em> Website. At 1:00pm\u00a0forty tickets are released for the following week&#8217;s performances. The tickets up for grabs are best seats available at an amazing price of \u00a320 per part. An amazing deal, but high demand and it took me a couple of times before I got my win.\u00a0 I do highly recommend to catch this amazing piece of art.<\/p>\n<p><em>Harry Potter and The Cursed Child <\/em>is JK Rowling&#8217;s eighth instalment of the Harry Potter Francize. However, this time it was co written by Jack Thorne and Jon Tiffany. Also rather than the big screen, this story is live action. Opening July 2016, the play has sold out for every performance and is\u00a0now booked up until the end of July 2018!\u00a0Following its opening however, JK Rowling made the decision to release the script as a book for the public to read. I for one decided to purchase the book not phased by the fact it was\u00a0a play script. I thought it was highly unlikely I would be seeing the play for some time! Unlike the saying mostly heard from Harry Potter Fans &#8216;the book is so much better than the film&#8217;, for this instalment &#8216;The Play is so much better than the book!&#8217;.\u00a0With Jack Thorne\u2019s excellent writing and John Tiffany\u2019s stunning direction, what has been<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-955 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-5-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter 5\" width=\"395\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-5-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-5.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/a> created breaks all the boundaries of traditional theatre while staying true to Harry\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n<p><em>Harry Potter and the Cursed Child <\/em>Parts 1 and 2 is set 19 years after the battle of Hogwarts and the defeat of Lord Voldemort. It is Harry&#8217;s children who are off to Hogwarts with\u00a0Harry&#8217;s youngest son Albus Severus\u00a0who is\u00a0struggling with with his dad\u2019s famous\u00a0legacy.\u00a0This is while\u00a0Harry himself finds life as\u00a0a father and ministry employee\u00a0is harder than it looks. \u2018<em>As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.\u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>I was so intrigued as\u00a0to how they were going to bring the Wizarding world to the &#8216;muggle&#8217;\u00a0stage. All I can say (to ensure I keep the secrets) it was amazing! It\u00a0left you guessing &#8216;how did they do that?&#8217; I loved the chorography throughout the play and I quickly noticed the stylised movement was of \u00a0co-founder and artistic director\u00a0of the physical theatre company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franticassembly.co.uk\/\">Frantic Assembly<\/a>,\u00a0Steven Hogget. I can recognise his work anywhere. It worked perfectly and looked so stunning when performed by the cast. His suiting to\u00a0the wizarding world worked\u00a0perfectly and I always love watching his work.\u00a0 The\u00a0backing music of the\u00a0movement pieces and scene changes\u00a0used are by British artist\u00a0Imogen Heap. As soon as I heard the music I knew it was her and those who listen to\u00a0her music would recognise a few songs from her previous albums minus the lyrics. Suited for the magical world of Harry Potter, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-956\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-4-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter 4\" width=\"342\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-4-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-4.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 342px) 100vw, 342px\" \/><\/a>great to see Imogen&#8217;s music accompanying Steven Hogget&#8217;s work again &#8211; having seen <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/IlRSiJWU1tY\"><em>Pool, No Water<\/em> <\/a>in the past.<\/p>\n<p>From the vision of\u00a0award winning scenographer Christine Jones,\u00a0accompanied by lighting designer Neil Austin and special effects by Jeremy Chernick.\u00a0The world of Hogwarts and wizarding world is brought to life in front of our\u00a0very eyes.The staging\u00a0is beautiful. Simplistic to the eye,\u00a0but you could tell how complex it would\u00a0be to execute backstage.\u00a0The lighting and visual effects combined with this staging\u00a0looked fantastic!\u00a0\u00a0Palace Theatre also well suited the play,\u00a0and when\u00a0taking your seats you could tell as to why this particular theatre was chosen for its host. \u00a0The scenery, affects, and story telling blended well together, complimenting each of them greatly that left you appreciating the work, and time it went in to create this Play. I fully understand the 9 Olivier&#8217;s it won\u00a0greatly deserved!<\/p>\n<p>I was delighted to be seeing the original London cast, with the cast change due to change at the end of May. Today also we had the full cast performing.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie\u00a0Parker\u00a0takes on the\u00a0Leading title of Harry Potter that\u2019s far from Radcliffe\u2019s portrayal.\u00a0\u00a0Matured and reserved but\u00a0yet still raw with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-953 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-7-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter 7\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-7-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-7.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>emotions with is greatly displayed. Paul Thornly is a comedic genius which\u00a0cements Ron\u2019s legacy, with\u00a0brilliant comic timing.\u00a0Noma Dumezweni\u00a0is simply glorious as Hermione, with her stubborn intelligence and care shining through the performance.<\/p>\n<p>Stars of the show are Sam Clemmett as Albus and Anthony Boyle as Malfoy\u2019s son Scorpius, bring a excellent partnership to life. The unlikely duo handle the plot with ease; Sam showing the emotions of a troubled\u00a0Son that just wants to\u00a0make his own route in life, which is more like his fathers than he would have thought. \u00a0Anthony in particular, gives a\u00a0exceptional performance which\u00a0results in you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-9.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-951\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-9-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter 9\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-9-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-9.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>rooting for a Malfoy for once! He delivers excellent comic moments, that had the audience laughing\u00a0out loud. His relationship also with his Father\u00a0Draco played by Alex Price is also brilliantly portrayed.<\/p>\n<p>A mention must go to the 42-strong cast that bring the magic to life throughout. Each taking on a wide range of differing favourite characters, that I will not mention at risk of spoilers.<\/p>\n<p>The other thing about this play, is it is not just for the Harry Potters. Although knowledge of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-8.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-952 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-8-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter 8\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-8-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-8.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> books and films is required to follow the intricate plot details, for someone who has never turned a page of a Harry Potter book would still be able to appreciate the clever humour, and the way the story is told through effects, and staging. It did come to a surprise how funny the play was as when reading the book it was missed but it was welcomed greatly and just added to the whole performance.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-2-.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-958\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-2--300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter 2\" width=\"341\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-2--300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-2--768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.rosereview.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Harry-Potter-2-.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/strong>I am so happy to say that I have managed to see this play within its first year of performing, and it delivered. Being a Harry Potter fan having read the books and watched the play, the fan girl in me was loving each moment, and also my partner Graham who has watched and enjoyed the films, came away from a brilliant day of entertainment &#8211; he even\u00a0open admitted he was excited for part 2 when awaiting to go back to the theatre! <em>Harry Potter and the Cursed Child <\/em>is playing at the Palace Theatre, for ticket and further information for &#8216;Friday Forty&#8217; go to the main website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harrypottertheplay.com\/\">here<\/a>.
